concerning foxes in Dorchester County; providing that a
person may hunt or trap on his land a fox or skunk that
is damaging or destroying the personal or real property
of the landowner; and redefining "hunt" to exclude the
sport of fox chasing.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

BY adding to

Annotated Code of Maryland

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That section(s) of the Annotated Code of Maryland
be repealed, amended, or enacted to read as follows:

Article — Natural Resources

10-101.

(g) "Fur—bearing mammal" means any raccoon, opossum,
beaver, mink, muskrat, [and] otter, FOX, SKUNK, FISHER, AND
LONG-TAILED WEASEL, or any part, offspring, or dead body of
any of them.

(j) "Hunt" means to pursue, capture, catch, kill,
gig, trap, shoot, or attempt to pursue, capture, catch,
kill, gig, trap, or shoot, or in any manner reduce any bird
or mammal to personal possession. HOWEVER, "HUNT" MAY NOT BE
CONSTRUED TO INCLUDE THE SPORT OF FOX CHASING.

(t) "Unprotected mammal" means [fox, skunk,] NUTRIA
and woodchuck.

(B) (5) IN DORCHESTER COUNTY A PERSON MAY HUNT OR
TRAP A FOX OR POSSESS THE PELT OF A FOX AT ANY TIME OF YEAR.

(6) A PERSON MAY HUNT OR TRAP ON HIS LAND A FOX
OR SKUNK THAT IS DAMAGING OR DESTROYING THE PERSONAL OR REAL
PROPERTY OF THE LANDOWNER.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1978.
