13-701. DRIVING VEHICLE WITHOUT EVIDENCE OF
REGISTRATION.
EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED IN THIS TITLE, AS TO
ANY VEHICLE REQUIRED TO BE REGISTERED UNDER THIS TITLE,
A PERSON MAY NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE ON ANY HIGHWAY IN
THIS STATE AND THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE MAY NOT
KNOWINGLY PERMIT IT TO BE DRIVEN ON ANY HIGHWAY IN THIS
STATE, UNLESS THE VEHICLE DISPLAYS CURRENT REGISTRATION
PLATES AND A CURRENT REGISTRATION CARD IS CARRIED AS
REQUIRED IN THIS TITLE.
REVISOR'S NOTE: This section presently appears as
Art. 66 1/2, §3-701.
The present reference to a violation of this
section as being a "misdemeanor" is deleted as
unnecessary in light of §27—101 of this
article.
Throughout this section and elsewhere in this
article, words such as "valid", "due", and
"proper" are deleted as unnecessary and,
inasmuch as they presently are not used at all
consistently, misleading. Also, the term
"drive", which is defined in §11-114 of this
article, is substituted without substantive
change for "operate"; see revisor's note to
that section.
The only other changes are in style.
The referenced provisions relating to the
display of registration cards and plates are
set forth in §§ 13-409 and 13-411 of this
title, respectively.
13-702. DRIVING VEHICLE WHEN REGISTRATION CANCELED,
SUSPENDED, OR REVOKED.
A PERSON MAY NOT DRIVE A VEHICLE ON ANY HIGHWAY IN
THIS STATE AND THE OWNER OF A VEHICLE MAY NOT KNOWINGLY
PERMIT IT TO BE DRIVEN ON ANY HIGHWAY IN THIS STATE, IF
THE REGISTRATION OF THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN CANCELED,
SUSPENDED, OR REVOKED.
REVISOR'S NOTE: This section presently appears as
Art. 66 1/2, §3-702.
The present, erroneous reference to a "motor
vehicle" is corrected to refer to any
"vehicle"; otherwise, the section would appear
to permit, for example, the towing of a
trailer, even if its registration has been
revoked. The change conforms to the otherwise
almost identical provision appearing in
§13-401 of this article.
