Ch. 14
754
LAWS OF MARYLAND
SPECIAL REGISTRATION MAY BE ISSUED AND CONTINUED
UNDER THIS SECTION ONLY IF THE APPLICANT SUBMITS, WITH
THE ORIGINAL AND EACH RENEWAL APPLICATION, PROOF
SATISFACTORY TO THE ADMINISTRATION THAT THE APPLICANT
HOLDS AN AMATEUR RADIO STATION LICENSE ISSUED BY THE
FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION. (C)   FEES. IN ADDITION TO THE ANNUAL REGISTRATION FEE OTHERWISE
REQUIRED BY THIS TITLE, THE APPLICANT SHALL PAY AN
ADDITIONAL ANNUAL FEE OF $5, PAYABLE WITH THE ORIGINAL
AND EACH RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL REGISTRATION
UNDER THIS SECTION. (D)   ASSIGNMENT OF SPECIAL NUMBER. A SPECIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER ASSIGNEE UNDER THIS
SECTION SHALL CONSIST OF THE AMATEUR RADIO CALL LETTERS
ASSIGNED TO THE APPLICANT BY THE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS
COMMISSION. REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language derived
without substantive change from Art. 66 1/2,
§3-802(b). As to the revision of this section, generally,
see revisor's note to §13-613 of this
subtitle. In subsection (a)(2) of this section, the more general reference to a "Class E (Truck) vehicle" is substituted for "pickup truck"; see revisor's note to §13-614 of this subtitle. As to subsection (b) of this section, the last
sentence of present Art. 66 1/2, §3—802(b)
contains a proviso that "the {special}
registration plates may be displayed only when
the vehicle is properly licensed". This
sentence appears to be an obsolete provision
that dates back to a time when the
Administration issued to the applicant both a
special registration plate and a regular one:
if the registrant subsequently lost his FCC
license, he then would be prohibited from
displaying the special plate and be required
to substitute the regular plate for it. Since
current practice is to issue only the special
plate, compliance with the proviso no longer
is possible. However, to retain as much as
possible of the former intent, the Commission
has revised subsection (b) of this section to
require periodic proof of FCC licensure; this
conforms to the like requirement of §13—615(b)
of this subtitle as to volunteer firemen or
members of a volunteer rescue squad.
