REVISOR'S NOTE: This section presently appears as
Art. 66 1/2, §3-503. In subsection (a) of this section, the term
"drive", which is defined in § 11—114 of this
article, is substituted without substantive
change for "operate". See revisor's note to
that section. In subsection (b) of this section, the present
references to "rules and regulations" of the
Administration and to forms "furnished by" the
Administration are deleted as unnecessary in
light of §§12-104 and 12-105 of this article
to the same effect. The only other changes are in style. 13-503.1. TRANSFERS BETWEEN SPOUSES. IF, WHETHER BY ACT OF THE PARTIES OR BY OPERATION OF
LAW, THE TITLE OR INTEREST OF AN OWNER IN A VEHICLE
REGISTERED IN THE JOINT NAMES OF A HUSBAND AND WIFE IS
TRANSFERRED TO THE INDIVIDUAL NAME OF EITHER SPOUSE OR
THE TITLE OR INTEREST OF THE OWNER IN A VEHICLE
REGISTERED IN THE INDIVIDUAL NAME OF EITHER SPOUSE IS
TRANSFERRED TO THEIR JOINT NAMES, THE TRANSFEREE MAY
CONTINUE TO USE THE SAME REGISTRATION PLATES ON THE
VEHICLE AFTER THE TRANSFER. IN ALL OTHER RESPECTS THE
TRANSFER SHALL BE TREATED THE SAME WAY AS ANY OTHER
TRANSFER BY A PRIVATE OWNER OF A REGISTERED VEHICLE. REVISOR'S NOTE: This section presently appears as
Art. 66 1/2, §3-503.1. The phrase "title or interest of an owner in"
is added to conform to the usage appearing in
§13—501 and elsewhere in this subtitle. The only other changes are in style. 13-504. TRANSFER OTHER THAN VOLUNTARY. (A) IN GENERAL. (1) EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED IN THIS
SECTION, IF THE TITLE OR INTEREST OF AN OWNER IN A
REGISTERED VEHICLE PASSES TO ANOTHER PERSON OTHER THAN BY
VOLUNTARY TRANSFER: (I)     THE REGISTRATION OF THE VEHICLE
EXPIRES; AND (II)   THE VEHICLE MAY NOT BE DRIVEN ON A
HIGHWAY UNTIL THE PERSON ENTITLED TO POSSESSION OF THE
VEHICLE APPLIES FOR AND OBTAINS A NEW REGISTRATION OF
THE VEHICLE.
