to display the vehicle registration card, as
long as the officer properly identifies
himself; however, under §16-112, the same
police officer in the same circumstances may
not require the same driver to display his
driver's license, since the officer is not in
uniform. Furthermore, the concept of
"display" differs in the two instances.
13-410. REGISTRATION PLATES AND TABS TO BE FURNISHED BY
ADMINISTRATION.
(A) NUMBER.
(1) WHEN IT REGISTERS A VEHICLE, THE
ADMINISTRATION SHALL ISSUE TO THE OWNER:
(1) ONE REGISTRATION PLATE, IF THE VEHICLE
IS A CLASS D (MOTORCYCLE) VEHICLE OR A CLASS G (TRAILER)
VEHICLE; AND
(II) TWO REGISTRATION PLATES FOR EVERY OTHER
VEHICLE.
(2) HOWEVER, AS TO TEMPORARY REGISTRATION,
THE ADMINISTRATION MAY PROVIDE FOR THE ISSUANCE OF ONLY
ONE TEMPORARY REGISTRATION PLATE FOR ANY VEHICLE.
(B) WHAT PLATE TO SHOW.
(1) EACH REGISTRATION PLATE SHALL DISPLAY:
(I) THE REGISTRATION NUMBER ASSIGNED TO THE
VEHICLE FOR WHICH IT IS ISSUED; AND
(II) THE NAME OF THIS STATE, WHICH MAY BE
ABBREVIATED.
(2) THE REGISTRATION NUMBER SHALL BE:
(I) FOR VEHICLES THAT REQUIRE TWO
REGISTRATION PLATES, AT LEAST 3 INCHES HIGH, WITH EACH
STROKE AT LEAST ONE-QUARTER OF AN INCH WIDE; AND
(II) FOR VEHICLES THAT REQUIRE ONLY ONE
REGISTRATION PLATE, AT LEAST 1 INCH HIGH, WITH EACH
STROKE AT LEAST ONE-EIGHTH OF AN INCH WIDE.
(3) THE REGISTRATION NUMBER MAY CONSIST OF
LETTERS, NUMERALS, OR BOTH.
(C) MATERIAL.
REGISTRATION PLATES MAY NOT BE REFLECTORIZED AND
SHALL BE MANUFACTURED OF A MATERIAL WARRANTED TO HAVE A
DURABILITY OF AT LEAST 5 YEARS.
