AN ACT concerning
Shoplifting - Courts
FOR the purpose of repealing an outdated reference to a
certain term for a trial for the crime of
shoplifting.

Dear Mr. Speaker:
In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill
1549.
This bill repeals an obsolete reference to the
jurisdiction of the Municipal Court of Baltimore City.
House Bill 352, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by lieutenant Governor Blair Lee III
in his capacity as Acting Governor on April 12, 1977,
completed a major revision of the Annotated Code of
Maryland by repealing various references made obsolete by
the creation of the District Court system. In doing so,
House Bill 352 repealed the obsolete provision which is
the subject of House Bill 1549.
Since the purpose of House Bill 1549 is accomplished
by the enactment and signing of House Bill 352, it is
unnecessary for me to sign House Bill 1549.
