A House Joint Resolution concerning
Manhole Safety
FOR the purpose of requesting the Commissioner of the
Department Division of Labor and Industry to cause
promulgation of safety rules related to manholes.
WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of the General
Assembly of Maryland that serious questions related to
the safety of those who work in or around manholes exist;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
this Body requests the Commissioner of the Department
Division of Labor and Industry to cause a study to be
made of the safety of manholes, and to cause appropriate
regulations to be promulgated; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to
the Commissioner of the Department Division of Labor and
Industry.

A House Joint Resolution concerning
Right to Privacy
FOR the purpose of requesting the State Board of
Education to study the various roles the public
schools play in protecting the rights of privacy of
students.
In the public schools, personal information is often
solicited from students in the presence of other
students. Children, especially younger children, may be
unaware of the negative consequences of extensive self
disclosure. Additionally, school personnel have
significant power to affect the lives of students and
their families.
The right to privacy must be guaranteed in order to:
1. protect the individual from possible
embarrassment or ridicule;
