(House Joint Resolution 3)
A House Joint Resolution concerning
Nutrition Facilities for the Elderly
FOR the purpose of requesting each county board of
education and the Board of School Commissioners of
Baltimore City to establish guidelines for
nutritional programs for senior citizens at public
schools throughout Maryland.
WHEREAS, One of the goals of the Food Services
Section of the Maryland State Department of Education is
to safeguard the health and well-being of Maryland's
senior citizens; and
WHEREAS, Many elderly citizens in Maryland are not
receiving proper nutritional care and instruction; and
WHEREAS, Additional facilities are needed to provide
adequate food service programs for the elderly; and
WHEREAS, The Annotated Code of Maryland presently
provides that county school boards shall provide for the
use of public schools for social purposes at times which
will not interfere with regular school sessions or other
bona fide school activities; and
WHEREAS, Public schools could possibly be used for
providing food service programs for the elderly; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
each county board of education and the Board of School
Commissioners of Baltimore City is requested to establish
guidelines which do not conflict with federal and State
regulations whereby the implementation of such a program
shall not conflict with the normal scheduling and
