Resources, and the Appalachian Environmental Laboratory
of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental
and Estuarine Studies to formalize a relationship for the
purpose of establishing an academic program in
Reclamation that would satisfy a clearly recognized need
to train and educate specialists in reclaiming land
disturbed by such activities as mining, highway
construction and urbanization; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Maryland General Assembly hereby
encourages the relocation of the State Bureau of Mines,
currently located in Westernport, Maryland, to a suitable
facility on the Frostburg State College campus, thereby
enhancing a close cooperative relationship between a
State regulatory agency and an educational institution,
particularly with respect to offering an academic program
in Reclamation and in undertaking research projects,
inasmuch as such an arrangement would ultimately benefit
the citizens of the State of Maryland; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to
the Honorable Marvin Mandel, Governor of Maryland, State
House, Annapolis, Maryland 21401; Mr. J. Carson Dowell,
Chairman, Board of Trustees of the State Universities and
Colleges, Jeffrey Building, Annapolis, Maryland 21401;

Secretary, Department of Natural Resources, Tawes State
