Ch. 13
LAWS OF MARYLAND
364
without substantive change from the first,
second, third, and fifth sentences of the
first paragraph of Art. 89B, §1. The first clause of the second sentence of
that paragraph, which provides that the
Commission is "part of the Department", is
deleted as redundant in light of §2-107 of
this article; see revisor's note to that
section. In subsection (c)(1) of this section, the
reference to "regional" members is added to
clarify that the party affiliation of the
Chairman is not a consideration under its
requisites. Also, the present requirement
that two of the regional members "bona fide
belong" to the political party opposite the
Governor is changed for clarity to require
that they be "registered" members of that
party. The fourth and sixth sentences of the first
paragraph of present Art. 89B, §1, which
relate to the performance by the
Chairman/Administrator of those duties
assigned by law or the Secretary and to the
service of the Chairman/Administrator "during
the pleasure of the Secretary", are deleted as
redundant in light of §8—202 of this subtitle. As to the possible removal from office of the
regional members, see, also, §2-102(e) of this
article. 6-212. OATH; TENURE; VACANCIES; COMPENSATION. (A) OATH. EACH MEMBER OF THE COMMISSION SHALL TAKE THE OATH
REQUIRED BY ARTICLE I, §6 OF THE STATE CONSTITUTION. (B)   TENURE; VACANCIES. (1)    EACH REGIONAL MEMBER OF THE COMMISSION
SERVES FOR A TERM OF 4 YEARS AND UNTIL HIS SUCCESSOR IS
APPOINTED AND QUALIFIES. THE TERMS OF THESE MEMBERS
SHALL BE STAGGERED AS REQUIRED BY PRIOR APPOINTMENTS,
THREE OF WHICH HERE MADE FOR A 1-YEAR TERM BEGINNING JUNE
1, 1959, THREE OF WHICH HERE MADE FOR A 2-YEAR TERM
BEGINNING JUNE 1, 1959, AND ONE OF WHICH MAS MADE FOR A
4-YEAR TERM BEGINNING JUNE 1, 1969. (2)    A MEMBER APPOINTED TO FILL A VACANCY IN
AN UNEXPIRED TERM SERVES ONLY FOR THE REMAINDER OF THAT
TERM. (C)   COMPENSATION.
