Article 96 1/2 - Veterans Section 51A, 55(a), (d), (g), 57, and 59 Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume and 1976 Supplement)
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 51A, 55(a), (d), (g), 57, and 59
of Article 96 1/2 - Veterans, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume and 1976 Supplement) be
and they are hereby repealed and reenacted, with
amendments, to read as follows: Article 96 1/2 - Veterans 51A. The Maryland Veterans' Home Commission is created
for the purpose of establishing, operating, and managing
a veterans' home within the State of Maryland; and for
this purpose to acquire a suitable facility at an
appropriate location through gift, devise, or donation[,
without cost to the State of Maryland]. The home
established by the Commission shall be open to resident
honorably discharged veterans of this State who have
served in the armed forces of the United States [at any
time] DURING WARTIME at any time, and admissions to and
discharges from the home shall be under rules and
regulations prescribed by the Commission in compliance
with appropriate State laws and any applicable federal
laws, rules and regulations, 55. (a) The trustees have the following powers and
duties[,]; (d) After acquisition of the initial site, to
acquire and hold[, at no cost to the State,] other real
and personal property, or any interest in it, by lease,
gift, purchase, devise, bequest, or by any other means,
and to conserve, improve, administer, invest, or dispose
of those properties for the purposes and objectives of
the Commission. (g) To appoint a commandant for the home, who
shall held office during their pleasure, and whose duties
shall be defined by them; to authorize the commandant to
appoint and employ all subordinate officials and persons
needed for the proper management of the institution and
they shall hold him strictly accountable for the actions
of all persons appointed or employed by him; and to fix
the salaries of all officials of the home appointed by
them or under their authority, which may not exceed what
is paid for like services in similar institutions. In
the appointment, election and employment of all persons
under the provisions of this subsection, honorably
discharged veterans of the United States armed forces
