AN ACT concerning
Garrett County - Deputy Sheriffs
FOR the purpose of repealing the maximum number of
deputies the Sheriff of Garrett County shall employ.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings
Section 2-309(m)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 2-309(m) of Article - Courts and
Judicial Proceedings, of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1974 Volume and 1976 Supplement) be and it is hereby
repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings
2-30 9.
(m) (1) The Sheriff of Garrett County shall
receive a salary of at least $11,500 and a sum set by the
County Commissioners, for expenses. He shall employ [not
more than eight] deputies AS NEEDED, WITHIN THE BUDGETARY
LIMITS, at salaries of at least $5,200 each, one of whom
shall act as warden of the jail, and a matron for the
jail who shall also perform clerical duties at the salary
set by the Sheriff. He may employ additional special
deputies whose compensation shall be approved by the
County Commissioners.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1977.
