ESTABLISHED as a principal department of the State
government. The head of the Department is the Secretary
of Natural Resources, who shall be appointed by the
Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate. The
Secretary shall be an individual with administrative
ability, whose reputation and experience demonstrate his
interest in the field of natural resources.
1-106.
(a) [The] THERE IS A Board of Review of the
Department [of Natural Resources is created and
continued:]. It consists of seven members appointed by
the Governor with the advice of the Secretary and with
the advice and consent of the Senate. Of the seven
members appointed, not less than four shall be selected
from and represent the general public. The remaining
members shall be persons of knowledge and experience in
one or more of the fields under the jurisdiction of the
Department. The term of membership is three years,
except that, of the original appointees, three are to
serve a three year term, two are to serve a two year
term, and two are to serve a one year term. A member
serves until his successor is appointed and qualified.
An appointment to a vacancy in an unexpired term is
limited to the remainder of that term. The Governor
shall fill any vacancy in an unexpired term. The
Governor shall designate a chairman from among the
members representing the general public. Members of the
Board shall receive the compensation provided in the
State budget and shall be reimbursed for expenses in
accordance with the standard travel regulations. The
Board shall have the staff provided in the budget.

[The] THERE IS A Natural Resources Police Force [is
created and continued within] IN the Department.

(a) [The] THERE IS A Maryland Geological Survey
[is created and continued within] IN the Department.
2-204.
(a) [The] THERE IS A Commission of the Maryland
Geological Survey [is created and continued within] IN
the Survey. It consists of five members appointed by the
Secretary from among citizens of the State who have
character, ability, and active interest in the proper
development, use, and conservation of geologic, mineral,
and water resources. The members shall select their own
chairman. A member's term of office is five years. The
Secretary may remove any member for cause, and any
vacancy shall be filled for the unexpired term, A member
may not receive compensation for his services, but shall
be reimbursed for necessary travel expenses and
