SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
is hereby declared to be an emergency measure and
necessary for the immediate preservation of the public
health and safety and having been passed by a yea and nay
vote supported by three-fifths of all members elected
to each of the two Houses of the General Assembly, the
same shall take effect from the date of its passage.
shall take effect July 1, 1978 1977, contingent upon
State funding of the provisions of this Act and if State
funding cannot be obtained, this Act shall be null and
void without the necessity of further action by the
General Assembly.

CHAPTER 777
(House Bill 551)
AN ACT concerning
Aviation — Law Enforcement
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
FOR the purpose of authorizing the Maryland State Police
to perform law—enforcement duties on property owned,
leased, or operated or under the control of the
State Aviation Administration; providing that the
Superintendent shall consult and cooperate with the
State Aviation Administrator in the exercise of
these powers; providing for the funding for these
duties; providing for the transfer of positions
necessary to accomplish these duties; providing that
off-duty police employees or airport police
employees of the Maryland State Police who perform
such duties shall not receive overtime compensation;
providing for the creation of a category known as an
airport police employee, within the Maryland State
Police; providing that all members in good standing
of the State Aviation Administration Police Force as
of July 1, 1977 shall become airport police
employees; empowering such employees to act as peace
and police officers; limiting the jurisdiction of
such employees; and providing that upon certain
terms and conditions members of the State Aviation
Administration Police Force who become airport
police employees of the Maryland State Police shall
transfer to the Maryland State Police pension
retirement system.
