CHAPTER 776
(House Bill 541)
AN ACT concerning
Baltimore County - Probation Department
FOR the purpose of providing for the transfer of certain
employees of the Baltimore County Parole and
Probation Department to the State Division of Parole
and Probation; and providing for their inclusion
under the State Merit System Law.

Preamble
WHEREAS, The entire court system in Maryland is a
State program which operates pursuant to and in
accordance with State law, and the probation departments
thereunder clearly are a full State responsibility; and
WHEREAS, The State has assumed and is paying the
cost of operation of probation departments in all
subdivisions except Baltimore County; and
WHEREAS, The State immediately should take over the
cost of operation of the Baltimore County Probation
Department so as to establish uniformity throughout the
State and to relieve Baltimore County of this financial
burden; now, therefore,
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 9J-1 be and it is hereby added
to Article 64A - Merit System, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1972 Replacement Volume and 1976 Supplement) to
read as follows:
Article 64A — Merit System
9J-1.
(A) AS OF THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ACT, ANY
EMPLOYEES OF BALTIMORE COUNTY WHO WERE PERFORMING PAROLE
AND PROBATION DUTIES UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE DIRECTOR
