SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 4-2 and 4-3 of the Public Local
Laws of Baltimore City being Article 4 of the Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1969 Edition, as amended by
Chapter 408 of the Acts of 1975) be and they are hereby
repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
Article 4
4-2.
(A) The board has general supervision of all
stationary engineers within the State [of Maryland],
except as hereinafter provided. The Board shall examine
all engineers [of the age of twenty—one years or
upwards,] who [shall] ARE 18 YEARS OLD OR OLDER AND apply
[to them] for examination[,] and [to] SHALL give all
parties so examined a certificate of proficiency if found
proficient, and [to] refuse to give (such] A certificate
if not found proficient. [The parties] EACH PERSON
receiving [such] THE certificate shall pay to the board
[the sum of] $10 for [each] THE certificate issued and
[from] $5 FOR all renewals of all grades [the sum of $5].
The certificate shall be of four grades[;]: a
certificate of the first grade will permit the holder to
take charge of any plant of machinery; the second grade
to take charge of any plant of machinery from one to five
hundred horse—power[, and]; the third grade to take
charge of any plant of machinery from one to thirty
horse—power[,]; and the fourth grade to take charge of
any hoisting or portable plant of machinery. The
certificate shall run for the term of one year, and shall
be renewed annually on or before the first day of
February. [No] AN engineer [having such] HOLDING A
certificate [shall] MAY NOT have charge of score than one
plant of machinery at the same time unless [said] THE
plant [be] IS of the same company and at one and the same
place[; and no]. A substitute who has not been examined
and received a certificate [shall] MAY NOT be placed in
charge of machinery by any engineer who has.
(B) THE BOARD MAY ISSUE, ON APPLICATION,
CERTIFICATES TO APPRENTICE STATIONARY ENGINEERS.
4-3.
[All persons of twenty-one years of age or upward]
ANY PERSON 18 YEARS OLD OR OLDER who [desires] DESIRES to
fill a position as a stationary engineer OR APPRENTICE
STATIONARY ENGINEER [must make application] SHALL APPLY
to the "Board of Examining Engineers" for examination and
certificate of proficiency, before he can pursue his
avocation as [such] STATIONARY engineer OR APPRENTICE
STATIONARY ENGINEER[; the provisions; of this] ANY
