scholarships FOR the purpose of altering those institutions eligible
for the general State scholarship program; altering
the allocation each legislative district is
permitted for each delegate; and generally relating
to the general State scholarship program. BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, Article 77A - Higher Education Section 57(a), (c) and (d) Annotated Code of Maryland (1975 Replacement Volume and 1976 Supplement)
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 57(a), (c) and (d) of Article 77A
- Higher Education, of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1975 Replacement Volume and 1976 Supplement) be and they
are hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to
read as follows: Article 77A — Higher Education 57.
(a) In addition to any other scholarships that may
be awarded or provided for under other provisions of this
article, there shall be a program of general scholarships
under the provisions of this section. Eligible
institutions are those degree—granting institutions of
higher education within this State whose curricula are
approved by the State Department of BOARD FOR HIGHER
Education. NONPROFIT POST-SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS WHICH DO NOT GRANT DEGREES HOSPITAL DIPLOMA SCHOOLS FOR THE TRAINING OF REGISTERED NURSES ARE ALSO ELIGIBLE IF THEIR
CURRICULA ARE APPROVED BY THE STATE BOARD OF FOR HIGHER
EDUCATION. AND IF THEY ARE APPROVED BY THE MARYLAND STATE SCHOLARSHIP BOARD.
(c) Each legislative district of the State is
entitled to an annual allocation of an amount not to
exceed $1500 as part of its quota of scholarship money
for this program, provided however that no legislative
district shall receive a minimum annual allocation
pursuant to this subsection, less than the minimum
allocation for fiscal year 1976. In addition, each
legislative district is entitled to an annual allocation
of an amount not to exceed [$1500] $2,000 for each
delegate which that legislative district is entitled to
send to the House of Delegates. Money may not be
disbursed by the State Scholarship Board from the quota
allocations except in accordance with the other
provisions of this section.
(d) Scholarship aid, to be used AT ELIGIBLE
INSTITUTIONS to defray all or part of the cost of tuition
