(9)    THE STATE PUBLIC DEFENDER, THE DEPUTY PUBLIC DEFENDER, DISTRICT PUBLIC DEFENDERS AND ASSISTANT
PUBLIC DEFENDERS: (10)   ELECTED STATE OFFICIALS; (11)   EMPLOYEES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PERSONNEL FOR WHOM THE SECRETARY SHALL PROVIDE AS ALTERNATIVE PROCEDURE SIMILAR TO THE PROCEDURE PRESCRIBED BY THIS SUBTITLE; (12)   CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES, OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND FOR WHOM A GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE EXISTS IN SECTION 7 OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND PUBLICATION KNOWN
AS "PERSONNEL PRACTICES FOR CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES" EXCEPT
AS MODIFIED BY ARTICLE 77A SECTION 15 (E)(1-A) OF THIS
CODE; (13) PERSONS IN UNCLASSIFIED POSITIONS AT THE VARIOUS STATE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES WHICH ARE COMPARABLE TO POSITIONS ON THE ASSOCIATE STAFF OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND, PROVIDED THAT THE RESPECTIVE BOARDS OF TRUSTEES OF THE VARIOUS STATE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES UNDERTAKE A REVIEW OF SUCH POSITIONS FOR THE PURPOSE OF: (I)    DETERMINING WHICH POSITIONS SHOULD
BE CLASSIFIED AND PROMPTLY CLASSIFYING THEM; AND (II)   DETERMINING AS TO THE REST WHAT CHANGES ARE APPROPRIATE TO BE MADE TO THE GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE APPLICABLE TO THE FACULTY STAFF, IN LIGHT OF THE GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE ADOPTED BY THIS SUBTITLE; (14) PERSONS HOLDING POSITIONS ON THE ASSOCIATE STAFF OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND, PROVIDED
THAT THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNIVERSITY UNDERTAKES A REVIEW
OF SUCH POSITIONS FOR THE PURPOSE OF: (I)    DETERMINING WHICH POSITIONS SHOULD
BE CLASSIFIED AND PROMPTLY CLASSIFYING THEM; AND (II)   DETERMINING AS TO THE REST WHAT CHANGES ARE APPROPRIATE TO BE MADE TO THE GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE APPLICABLE TO THE FACULTY STAFF, IN LIGHT OF THE GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE ADOPTED BY THIS SUBTITLE. 54. (A) THERE SHALL BE FIVE STEPS IN THIS PROCEDURE. (1) STEP ONE. STEP ONE SHALL BE THE
INITIATION OF A COMPLAINT. GRIEVANCES MUST BE INITIATED
WITHIN 30 DAYS OF THE ALLEGED COMPLAINT OR WITHIN 30 DAYS
AFTER THE COMPLAINING EMPLOYEE REASONABLY MAY BE HELD TO
HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE ACT OF WHICH HE IS COMPLAINING. AN
AGGRIEVED EMPLOYEE AND HIS DESIGNATED REPRESENTATIVE MAY
