SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 1—18 of the Public Local Laws of
Cecil County being Article 8 of the Public Local Laws of
Maryland (1970 Edition Supplemented through October 1975,
as amended) be and it is hereby repealed and reenacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
Article 8
1-18.
The County Commissioners of Cecil County shall
receive an annual salary [of thirty-five hundred dollars]
in lieu of all other compensation and shall be allowed
[fifteen hundred dollars] AN ADDITIONAL AMOUNT to cover
all expenses incurred in the performance of their duties
as county commissioners, and shall be required to devote
all their time to the duties of [said] THE office.
Beginning with the [terms] TERM of office commencing
after the [1966] 1978 general election, and thereafter,
the county commissioners shall receive a salary of
[ninety-six hundred dollars] $12,500 per year. They
shall receive [seven hundred and fifty dollars] $1,200
per year to cover expenses, [provided] EXCEPT that the
president of the board shall receive an additional [two
hundred and fifty dollars] $500. In addition, each
commissioner shall be allowed expenses of [ten] 10 cents
per mile for two round trips per week from the
commissioner's home to the office of the county
commissioners in Elkton, Maryland. For all other mileage
expenses, each commissioner must submit a voucher to the
county treasurer in order to be reimbursed.
The treasurer shall also provide a fund of [nine
hundred dollars] $900 per year to cover the expenses of
the office for those activities that require travel
outside of the state on county business. The fund shall
be available to any one or all of the commissioners in
equal proportions. Reimbursement out of this fund shall
be dependent on the presentation of vouchers by the
[commissioner(s)] COMMISSIONER OR COMMISSIONERS to
evidence the expense.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the
provisions of this Act shall not be construed to extend
or apply to the salary of the persons specified by this
Act in office on the effective date of this Act, but the
provisions of this Act concerning the salary of the
persons specified by this Act shall take effect at the
beginning of the next following term of office.
