LAWS OF MARYLAND
15. (b) (1) The government of the University of
Maryland shall be vested in the board of regents of the
University of Maryland. (2)    The board shall consist of fifteen
members who shall be citizens of this State. (3)    Fourteen of the members shall be
appointed by the Governor, by and with the advice and
consent of the Senate. (4)    The remaining member shall be the
Maryland Secretary of Agriculture ex officio with voting
privileges. (5)    Two of the members shall be students at
different campuses of the University of Maryland. Each
such member shall be appointed for a term of one year,
commencing on July 1 AND ENDING THE FOLLOWING JUNE 30,
UNLESS THE TERM TERMINATES SOONER BY REASON OF
RESIGNATION, DISQUALIFICATION, OR REMOVAL FROM OFFICE,
and may be reappointed if he remains a student at any
campus of the University. THE STUDENT MEMBER SHALL MEET
THE SAME QUALIFICATIONS TO SEEK AND HOLD OFFICE WHICH ARE
REQUIRED OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT
ASSOCIATION. THE STUDENT MEMBER SHALL BE A RESIDENT OF MARYLAND. THAT MEMBER IS SUBJECT TO REMOVAL FROM OFFICE IN THE MANNER PROVIDED FOR REMOVAL FROM OFFICE OF MEMBERS OF THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION. (6)    The members of the board shall serve
without compensation but shall be paid their reasonable
and necessary expenses while engaged in the discharge of
their official duties in accordance with the standard
travel regulations. (7)    The members of the board who were
appointed to terms prior to July 1, 1969 shall continue
to serve until the expiration of these terms, and upon
such expiration shall each be eligible for reappointment.
The term of office of all members appointed after July 1,
1969, shall be five years and shall each date from the
first Monday in June of the year in which appointed.
However, the student members of the board shall be
appointed or reappointed as set forth above. No person
other than the Secretary of Agriculture shall serve for
more than two consecutive terms. Members appointed to
fill vacancies occurring during a term shall serve for
the remainder of the term, and they shall be eligible for
reappointment. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary
contained herein, the original term of office of one of
the members of the board of regents whose office is
established on June 1, 1970, shall commence on the first
Monday in June of 1970 and shall expire on the first
Monday in June of 1972, and the original term of office
