SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 27A be and it is hereby added
to Article 78 — Public Service Commission Law, of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1975 Replacement Volume and
1976 Supplement) to read as follows:
Article 78 — Public Service Commission Law
27A.
THE COMMISSION SHALL REQUIRE ALL GAS, ELECTRIC, AND
TELEPHONE COMPANIES TO EXEMPT THE DWELLING UNITS OF ALL
SUBSCRIBING INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE 60 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER
FROM ANY CASH DEPOSIT REQUIREMENT, PROVIDED THAT THE
SUBSCRIBER DOES NOT OWE ANY PAST-DUE BILLS TO THAT
SERVICE COMPANY.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1977.
