(Senate Bill 435)
AN ACT concerning
Licenses — Collection Agencies
FOR the purpose of defining certain terms; creating a
Collection Agency Licensing Board of the Office of
the Commissioner of Consumer Credit; requiring that
certain persons obtain a certain license in order to
engage in the business of a collection agency;
providing for an application for the license;
providing for the issuance, revocation, suspension,
and surrender of the license; and generally relating
to licenses for the operation of collection
agencies.

Article 56 — Licenses
Section 323 through 328 329, inclusive, to be
under the new subtitle "Collection Agencies"

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Sections 323 through 328 329,
inclusive, to be under the new subtitle "Collection
Agencies" be and they are hereby added to Article 56 —
Licenses, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1972
Replacement Volume and 1976 Supplement) to read as
follows:

(A) IN THIS SUBTITLE, THE FOLLOWING WORDS HAVE THE
MEANINGS INDICATED.
(B) "COLLECTION AGENCY" MEANS ALL PERSONS DIRECTLY
OR INDIRECTLY ENGAGED IN THE BUSINESS OF SOLICITING FROM,
OR COLLECTING FOR OTHERS ANY CLAIM DUE OR ASSERTED TO BE
