(c) (1) The Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall
receive a salary of $17,500. In addition to his salary,
the Sheriff shall receive $176,000 $190,500 annually to
be used for salaries of deputies and any necessary
clerical assistants; as of July 1, 1976, [$19,500]
$24,000 of this shall be for three new deputy sheriff
positions at [$6,500] $8,000 each.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1977.

Road Tax on Motor Carriers - Exemptions
FOR the purpose of exempting certain vehicles of a state
or subdivision of a state from the Road Tax on Motor
Carriers law.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article 81 - Revenue and Taxes
Section 425(a)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 425(a) of Article 81 - Revenue and
Taxes, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1975
Replacement Volume and 1976 Supplement) be and it is
hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
Article 31 - Revenue and Taxes
425.
(a) Nothing in the subtitle shall apply to any
commercial vehicle or vehicles operated by [the State]
ANY STATE or [any] subdivision thereof, the United States
or any agency of two or more states or of states and the
United States in which this State participates; or to any
school bus as defined by the laws of this State operated
by, for or on behalf of a state, any subdivision thereof,
