SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 17 of Article 26A - Criminal
Injuries Compensation Act, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1973 Replacement Volume and 1976 Supplement) be
and it is hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:
Article 26A — Criminal Injuries Compensation Act
17.
Where any person is convicted after July 1, 1968, of
any crime by any judge with criminal jurisdiction, there
shall be imposed as additional cost, in the case, in
addition to any other costs required to be imposed by
law, the sum of [five dollars ($5) ] $10. All such sums
shall be paid over to the Comptroller of the State to be
deposited in the general funds of the State. Under no
condition shall a political subdivision be held liable
for the payment of this sum of [five dollars ($5)] $10.
Crime as used in this section does not include violations
of THE TRANSPORTATION Article [66 1/2 (Motor Vehicles)],
or the Agriculture or Natural Resources articles of this
Code, or violations of State or local building, health
and sanitation codes.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1977.
