AN ACT concerning
Wicomico County — Sheriff's Salary
FOR the purpose of increasing the Sheriff's salary in
Wicomico County.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article — Courts and Judicial Proceedings

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 2-309(x)(1) of Article - Courts
and Judicial Proceedings, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1974 Volume and 1976 Supplement) be and it is
hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
Article - Courts and Judicial Proceedings
2-309.
(x) (1) The Sheriff of Wicomico County shall
receive a salary of [$10,000] $15,000. He shall appoint
a chief deputy at a salary of at least $5,000 as set by
the Wicomico County Council, payable in equal monthly
installments. His term of office coincides with the
Sheriff's and he may be removed by the Sheriff at any
time. The Sheriff may appoint additional deputies as he
and the County Council of Wicomico County deem necessary,
and a cook and a matron for the county jail each of whom
shall receive the compensation prescribed by the
personnel rules and regulations of the county.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That the
provisions of this Act shall not be construed to extend
or apply to the salary of the Sheriff in office on the
effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this
Act concerning the salary of the Sheriff shall take

|
|
