922                                     LAWS OF MARYLAND                              Ch. 344

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 10 of Article 38A - Fires and
Investigations, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971
Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement) be and it is
hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

Article 38A - Fires and Investigations

10.

The written order of the State Fire Marshal made
pursuant to § 9 of this article, when directed to the
occupant of [such] THE premises, shall be served by
delivering a true copy thereof to [such] THE occupant or
to any adult person apparently in charge of [said] THE
premises, within five days from the date of issuance of
such order; or, in case [no such] THE person is NOT found
upon the premises, then by posting a true copy thereof
within five days from the date of issuance of [said] THE
order in a conspicuous place on the door or other
prominent entrance to [said] THE premises and by mailing
a copy thereof by registered nail to [said] THE occupant
at his last known post—office address, or if [no such
address be] THE ADDRESS IS NOT known, then by registered
mail to [said] THE occupant in care of general delivery
at the post office serving the community in which [said]
THE premises lie. When directed to the owner of [such]
THE premises, [such] THE order shall be served by
delivering a true copy thereof to [such] THE owner, or,
if the owner is absent from the State or his whereabouts
be unknown to the State Fire Marshal, by mailing a true
copy thereof by registered mail to the [said] THE owner's
last known post—office address, or if no such address be
known then by registered mail to [said] THE owner in care
of general delivery at the post office serving the
community in which [said] THE premises lie; [the said]
THIS delivering or mailing of [such] THE order to be
accomplished within five days from the date of the
issuance of [such] THE order. And in the event it is
necessary to mail a copy of [such] THE order as
aforesaid, the officer mailing the same shall also,
within five days from the date of issuance of [such] THE
order, post a true copy thereof upon [said] THE premises
in the manner above provided for notice to occupants.

Provided, that every [such] order and copy thereof
shall contain a notice that compliance therewith shall be
required within a period [of thirty days from the date of
issuance thereof,] SPECIFIED IN THE NOTICE, and also that
any person desiring to contest the validity of any such
order may enter an appeal from [said] THE order in the
manner prescribed in 811 of this article.
