AN ACT concerning

Stealing

FOR the purpose of changing the penalty for stealing
certain goods; generally relating to stealing,
taking away or carrying away the personal property
of another worth less than a certain amount; and
clarifying language.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Article 27 — Crimes and Punishments

Section 341 (a)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1971 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 341(a) of Article 27 - Crimes and
Punishments, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1971
Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement) be and it is
hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

Article 27 — Crimes and Punishments

341.

(a) If any person [shall steal, take or carry]
STEALS, TAKES, OR CARRIES away personal goods of another
under the value of $100, [and being thereof convicted he
shall be deemed] THAT PERSON IS guilty of a misdemeanor,
and shall restore the STOLEN goods and chattels [so
stolen] or pay [the] THEIR full value [thereof] to the
owner, and be fined not more than [$100] $500 or
imprisoned for not more than 18 months, or both fined and
imprisoned.[; provided that all] ALL actions or
prosecutions under this section shall be commenced within
two years after the commission of the offense.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this    Act

shall be construed only prospectively and may not      be

applied or interpreted to have any affect upon      or

application to any event or happening occurring prior      to
the effective date of this Act.
