EXECUTIVE ORDER OF JUNE 27, 1975
GLENN L. MARTIN STATE AIRPORT
WHEREAS, Pursuant to Chapter 886 of the Laws of 1975, the
General Assembly authorized the purchase by the
State of Maryland from Chesapeake Park, Inc., a
privately owned airport facility at Middle River,
Maryland, comprising approximately 750 acres of land
and improvements, heretofore known as the Martin
Marietta Airport; and
WHEREAS, The transfer of land and improvements comprising
the Martin Marietta Airport became effective June
30, 1975; and
WHEREAS, This airport will be developed as an important
public air transportation facility serving the
general aviation needs of Maryland and will continue
to serve as the home of the two Maryland Air
National Guard units; and
WHEREAS, Glenn L. Martin made the State of Maryland a
center for aeronautical research and progress in
aviation, in the course of which thousands of our
citizens were employed by the company founded by him
and bearing his name, in building hundreds of
aircraft at this same site; and
WHEREAS, The achievements of Glenn L. Martin were the
product of his foresight and perseverance, to which
qualities he added generosity in donating
substantial sums to Maryland educational
institutions; and
WHEREAS, The name of Glenn L. Martin should continue to
be identified with the development of aviation in
Maryland.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, MARVIN MANDEL, GOVERNOR OF MARYLAND,
PURSUANT TO THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE MARYLAND
TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION, AND BY VIRTUE OF THE
AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME BY ARTICLE II, SECTION 24 OF
THE CONSTITUTION OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND AND BY
ARTICLE 41, SECTIONS 15C AND 15CB, OF THE ANNOTATED
CODE OF MARYLAND, DO HEREBY DECLARE THAT THE AIRPORT
FACILITY AT MIDDLE RIVER, MARYLAND, WHICH HAS BEEN
PURCHASED BY THE STATE OF MARYLAND FOR THE USE AND
BENEFIT OF THE PUBLIC, BE AND IT IS HEREBY NAMED:
"GLENN L. MARTIN STATE AIRPORT"
