AN ACT concerning

St. Mary's County - Sheriff's Office

FOR the purpose of establishing a Board of Public Safety
requiring certain officials to determine the number
of deputy sheriffs necessary for St. Mary's County
and to appoint them; requiring deputy sheriffs of
that county to attend and complete certain training
programs; requiring certain personnel of that county
to establish legal residence there prior to a
certain time; requiring the sheriff to supervise his
office and furnish certain timely reports to certain
county officials; providing for the discharge of

deputy sheriffs under certain circumstances;

generally relating to the sheriff's office in St.

Mary's County; and clarifying language.

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill
952.

This bill establishes a Board of Public Safety in
St. Mary's County and makes various changes to the St.
Mary's County Sheriff's Office, chiefly with respect to
deputy sheriffs.

One provision of the bill requires the sitting judge
of the Circuit Court of St. Mary's County to appoint one
of the members of the Board of Public Safety. I have
