(House Joint Resolution No. 30)

A House Joint Resolution concerning

Beverage Container Task Force

FOR the purpose of requesting the Governor to appoint a
task force to study legislation involving mandatory
deposits on beverage containers.

WHEREAS, In the past several sessions of the General
Assembly, legislation has been introduced which would
require mandatory deposits to be made with respect to the
sale of beverages contained in beverage containers; and

WHEREAS, This legislation has also involved the
prohibition of the sale of beverages in nonreturnable
containers; and

WHEREAS, Before the legislature spends further time
considering such legislation, a task force should be
appointed to study the general impact of mandatory
deposit legislation on the State and report its findings
and recommendations to the General Assembly; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the Governor of Maryland is requested to appoint, by July
1, 1976, a task force on beverage containers to study the
economic, environmental, and other forms of impact of
mandatory deposit legislation with respect to the sale of
beverages sold in beverage containers; and be it further

RESOLVED, That this task force be composed of the
following:

(1)    One representative of industries engaged
in the production of metal beverage containers for
beverages;

(2)    One representative of industries engaged
in producing beverage containers for beverages;

(3)    Two representatives of industries
engaged in brewing beer or malt beverages. [[One]] Both
of these shall represent [[a]] national brewing

[[company with]] companies__with one of these companies

having a brewery in Maryland[[. The other shall
represent a local brewery whose sales are predominantly
in Maryland]];

(4) One representative of industries engaged
in bottling and distributing carbonated soft drinks;
