JOINT RESOLUTIONS

No. 34

Prince George's County Executive, Courthouse, Upper
Marlboro, Maryland; James P. Gleason, County Executive of
Montgomery County, County Office Building, 100 Maryland
Avenue, Rockville, Maryland 20850.

Approved May 4, 1976.

No. 35

(Senate Joint Resolution No. 52)

A Senate Joint Resolution concerning

State Department of Transportation —
Baltimore and Annapolis Railroad

FOR the purpose of requesting the Department of
Transportation to [[acquire]] study the feasibility
of acquiring the right—of—way of the Baltimore and
Annapolis Railroad, for future conversion into a
light rail system or for other uses.

There is no effective means of mass transit
operating between Baltimore and Annapolis, or serving the
areas between these cities.

There is an existing railroad right—of—way between
Baltimore and Annapolis. This right—of—way could be used
by a light rail transportation system. It could also be
used as a bicycle path, and could thus be incorporated in
the State pilot program for bicycle rights-of-way, or it
could be used for another useful transportation purpose;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the Department of Transportation [[acquire]] study the

feasibility of acquiring the right—of—way of the

Baltimore and Annapolis Railroad for the purpose of its
future conversion to a light rail system to connect the

cities of Baltimore and Annapolis, or for another useful

transportation purpose; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Department should [[acquire]]
study the feasibility of acquiring sufficient land to
permit the construction of a bicycle path, or other
useful transportation facility, in addition to any rail
system; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be
forwarded to the Honorable Harry Hughes, Secretary of the
Maryland State Department of Transportation, BWI Airport,
Baltimore, Maryland 21240.

Approved May 4, 1976.
