Before the advent of movies, television and radio,
the family, by necessity, also served as the source of
entertainment, since the family, by necessity, had to
create its own diversions and relaxation.
In areas without established schools, the family was
also the source of any formal learning.
The mobility and fragmentation of today's society
have done much to undermine the solidarity of the family,
and many of today's social problems can be traced
directly to this erosion. Therefore, we strongly believe
that the citizens of Maryland should take time to reflect
upon the importance of a strong family to a healthy and
vigorous society, and that we acknowledge the invaluable
contribution of the family to the strength of our nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
the first Sunday in August be designated "Family Day", to
acknowledge the paramount importance of the family unit
in shaping a vigorous society[[; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to
the Maryland Congressional Delegation:

A House Joint Resolution concerning
State Employees — Retirement Credit
FOR the purpose of requesting that the appropriate
officials of the State of Maryland investigate the
feasibility of permitting credit towards retirement
for unused accumulated compensatory time for
employees of the State of Maryland.
Many employees of the State of Maryland are not paid
for overtime work but are given in lieu thereof
compensatory time in the form of leave days. Many of
