hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

Article 78 - Public Service Commission Law

68.

(A)    The Commission shall have the power to
determine just and reasonable rates of public service
companies, whether as maximum, minimum or maximum and
minimum, respectively. The rates so determined shall be
fixed by order to be served upon each public service
company affected thereby.

(B)   [[IN SETTING RATES FOR TELEPHONE COMPANIES,]]

THE COMMISSION MAY NOT AUTHORIZE TELEPHONE__COMPANY

CHARGES TO BE LEVIED FOR DIRECTORY ASSISTANCE PRIOR TO

THE TIME OF ADJOURNMENT OF THE 1977 SESSION OF THE

GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND. THE PUBLIC SERVICE

COMMISSION AND THE PEOPLE'S COUNSEL, WITH THE COOPERATION
OF THE TELEPHONE COMPANIES, SHALL PREPARE A REPORT OF THE
COST AND SERVICE NEED AND IMPACT OF TELEPHONE COMPANIES
LEVYING CHARGES FOR DIRECTORY ASSISTANCE, AND THIS REPORT

SHALL BE PRESENTED BY THE COMMISSION TO THE GENERAL

ASSEMBLY AT THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE 1977 SESSION.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1976.
