Ch. 835

shall be appointed to a term which expires June 1, 1975,
and one member shall be appointed to a term which expires
June 1, 19761. AFTER THE TERMS OF THE CURRENT MEMBERS
EXPIRE, TERMS OF OFFICE EXPIRE ON JUNE 1 OF THE
APPROPRIATE YEAR. One member shall be designated by the
Governor as chairman. [In Prince George's County a] A
member of the board shall remain in office until a
replacement is appointed, and the submission of proposed
new members shall be done three months before the term
begins.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1976.

AN ACT concerning

Public Education - Library Trustees

FOR the purpose of providing for certain action regarding
members of the Boards of Library Trustees who fail
to attend a certain percentage of meetings;
providing for an effective date of the action.

BY adding to

Article 77 — Public Education

Section 172(a)(8)

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1975 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 172(a)(8) be and it is hereby
added to Article 77 — Public Education, of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1975 Replacement Volume and 1975
Supplement) to read as follows:

Article 77 — Public Education

172.

(a)(8) A MEMBER OF THE BOARDS OF LIBRARY

TRUSTEES WHO FAILS TO ATTEND AT LEAST 50 PERCENT OF THAT
BOARD'S SCHEDULED MEETINGS DUPING ANY ONE CALENDAR YEAR
SHALL [[RESIGN]] BE CONSIDERED TO HAVE RESIGNED FROM THE
BOARD. THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES
SHALL REPORT THE MEMBER'S NAME TO THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BY
JANUARY 15 OF THE YEAR FOLLOWING WITH A STATEMENT OF THE
