AN ACT concerning
Radiation Control — Clarifications
FOR the purpose of requiring the Secretary of Health and
Mental Hygiene, rather than a certain Board, to take
certain actions relating to radiation control;
permitting the Secretary to promulgate rules and
regulations; providing definitions; and clarifying
language.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article 43 - Health
Section 675, 676, 677, 678, 679, 680, 685, 687
and 689A

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 675, 676, 677, 678, 679, 680,
685, 687 and 689A of Article 43 - Health, of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and
1975 Supplement) be and they are hereby repealed and
reenacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
Article 43 - Health
675.
Whereas [ionizing] [[radiations]] RADIATION [and
their sources] can be instrumental in the improvement of
health, welfare and productivity of the public if
properly utilized, and may be destructive of life or
health if carelessly or excessively employed, or may
impair the industrial and agricultural potentials of the
State if improperly utilized, it is hereby declared to be
the public policy of this State to encourage the
constructive uses of radiation and to control radiation.
676.
(A) The following words as used in this subtitle
[shall] have the [following meaning: "Board" means
Maryland State Board of Health] MEANINGS INDICATED.
(B) "Advisory Board" means the Radiation Control
Advisory Board herein created. ["Radiation" means
ionizing radiation and includes gamma rays, X—Rays, alpha
and beta particles, high—speed electrons, neutrons,
protons, and other atomic and nuclear particles or rays.]
