[(3) If] (2) EACH INDIVIDUAL applying for
licensure as a physical therapist assistant[,] SHALL be
OF A GOOD MORAL CHARACTER AND a graduate of a curriculum
for physical therapist assistants which is approved by
the American Physical Therapy Association AND SHALL
PROVIDE EVIDENCE OF SATISFACTORY COMPLETION OF THE
CLINICAL TRAINING REQUIRED BY THE CURRICULUM.
(b) Any physical therapist or physical therapist
assistant who is licensed or registered in any other
state, Commonwealth, possession of the United States, or
the District of Columbia, and who meets the
qualifications for licensure by examination in Maryland,
and was licensed or registered by examination in the
other state may, at the discretion of the Board, be
eligible to receive a license as a physical therapist or
physical therapist assistant in this State, without
examination.
(c) Before commencing practice as a physical
therapist or physical therapist assistant in Maryland, AN
INDIVIDUAL SHALL FILE WITH THE BOARD a written
application for license[,] BY ENDORSEMENT OR EXAMINATION
and [such] other documents as the Board may require[,
mast be filed with the Board and a temporary license
issued. The], WHEN ALL DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR LICENSURE
ARE ON FILE WITH THE Board, IT shall issue a temporary
license to [a person who has applied for a license under
subsection (a) and who is eligible to take the
examination as provided herein] THE APPLICANT. The
temporary license shall [not exceed] EXPIRE 60 DAYS AFTER
the date of the next scheduled examination [and shall
expire when] UNLESS the Board [makes a final
determination with respect to the application] DETERMINES
THAT THE LICENSE SHALL BE FORFEITED BEFORE THAT DATE. IF
AN APPLICANT FOR LICENSURE BY EXAMINATION DOES NOT REPORT
TO TAKE THE EXAMINATION, THE TEMPORARY LICENSE EXPIRES ON
THE DATE OF THE EXAMINATION. At the discretion of the
Board, a temporary license may be renewed [only] once[,
and the renewal shall not exceed the date of the next
scheduled examination] OR EXTENDED FOR COMPLETION OF A
PRECEPTORSHIP.
(D) A TEMPORARY PERMIT TO PRACTICE PHYSICAL
THERAPY IN MARYLAND MAY BE ISSUED BY THE BOARD TO A
QUALIFIED PHYSICAL THERAPIST, LICENSED OR REGISTERED IN
ANOTHER STATE. COMMONWEALTH, POSSESSION OF THE UNITED
STATES, OR THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, WHO ENTERS MARYLAND
FOR THE PURPOSE OF GIVING LECTURES OR CONDUCTING
WORKSHOPS RELATING TO PHYSICAL THERAPY, OR FOR THE
PURPOSE OF ENGAGING IN SHORT TERM PHYSICAL THERAPY STUDY
COURSES APPROVED BY THE BOARD.
