THIRD AND FOURTH YEAR MEDICAL STUDENTS AND OTHER
HEALTH PROFESSIONS' STUDENTS IN PRIMARY CARE PROGRAMS AND
CERTAIN RESIDENCY TRAINEES SHALL BE [[ADMITTED]] ASSIGNED
TO THOSE CENTERS WHICH, IN THE JUDGMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY
OF MARYLAND SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, HAVE DEVELOPED

APPROPRIATE FACULTY,        FACILITIES,         AND PRIMARY CARE

CURRICULA. [[CONSISTENT WITH THE ACCREDITATION STANDARDS
OF THE JOINT COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION OF THE AMERICAN
MEDICAL ASSOCIATION AND THE ASSOCIATION OF [[AMERICAN]]
MEDICAL COLLEGES.]]

IN ORDER TO INSURE CONTINUING EDUCATION EXCELLENCE,
THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND SCHOOL OF MEDICINE SHALL
PROVIDE FOR PERIODIC, SYSTEMATIC EVALUATION OF THE
MARYLAND STATEWIDE MEDICAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING SYSTEM
IN COOPERATION WITH THE GOVERNOR'S COMMISSION ON MEDICAL
EDUCATION OR ITS SUCCESSOR BODY.

91.

NOTHING CONTAINED IN THIS ACT SHALL IN ANY WAY

RESTRICT OR PROHIBIT ANY HOSPITAL, UNIVERSITY OR OTHER
HEALTH CARE PROVIDER FROM ENTERING INTO OR FORMULATING
ANY TRAINING PROGRAM IN CONJUNCTION WITH ANY OTHER
HOSPITAL, UNIVERSITY OR OTHER HEALTH CARE FACILITY FOR
THE TRAINING OF ANY STUDENTS, INTERNS, RESIDENTS OR OTHER
ALLIED MEDICAL PERSONNEL, AND SUCH TRAINING PROGRAMS AS
MAY BE FORMULATED AND ENTERED INTO BY ANY SUCH

INSTITUTIONS OR PERSONS SHALL NOT BE SUBJECT TO OR BOUND

BY ANY OF THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ACT. IT IS SPECIFICALLY
INTENDED THAT THE INSTITUTION WHICH MAY [[COMPRISE THE
AREA HEALTH EDUCATION CENTERS]] ELECT TO PARTICIPATE WITH
THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND UNDER THIS ACT SHALL BE FREE
TO ENGAGE IN EDUCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS INDEPENDENT OF
THE PROVISIONS OF THIS ACT.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1976.
