(1968 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 40(c) of Article 10 - Attorneys at
Law and Attorneys in Fact, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1968 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement) be
and it is hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:

Article 10 - Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact

40.

(c) In Anne Arundel County, (1) the State's
Attorney's salary [is $30,000 annually; and he shall
serve full time] SHALL BE EQUAL TO THE SALARY OF A
CIRCUIT JUDGE OF THE EIGHT JUDICIAL CIRCUITS.        THE

STATE'S ATTORNEY, DURING HIS TERM OF OFFICE, MAY NOT
APPEAR, EXCEPT IN CONNECTION WITH AND IN PERFORMANCE OF
HIS DUTIES AS STATE'S ATTORNEY, AS COUNSEL OR REPRESENT
ANY PARTY PROFESSIONALLY BEFORE ANY COURT, BOARD,
COMMISSION OR AGENCY OF THIS STATE OR ANY COUNTY OR
POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS STATE. IT IS INTENDED THAT
THE STATE'S ATTORNEY MAY NOT ENGAGE IN THE PRIVATE
PRACTICE OF LAW. (2) The State's Attorney may appoint
[a] TWO deputy State's [attorney who shall serve full
time and whose salary shall be set by the State's
Attorney and may not exceed $27,500 annually as the
State's Attorney may deem proper. (3) The State's
Attorney may appoint 15 assistant State's attorneys. The
salary of two assistant State's attorneys shall be set by
the State's Attorney and may not exceed $22,500 annually
as the State's Attorney may deem proper and they shall
serve full time and shall not, except in connection with
and in performance of their duties as assistant State's
attorneys, appear as counsel or represent any party
professionally before any court, board, commission or
agency of this State or any county or political
subdivision of this State; it is intended by these
provisions that the assistant State's attorneys shall not
engage in the private practice of law in any matter
whatsoever. The salary of six assistant State's
attorneys, who shall serve full time, shall be set by the
State's Attorney and may not exceed $18,500 annually as
the State's Attorney may deem proper; the salary of seven
assistant State's attorneys, who shall serve full time or
part time as the State's Attorney shall designate, shall
be set by the State's Attorney and may not exceed $16,500
annually as the State's Attorney may deem proper. (4)
The State's Attorney may appoint one administrative
assistant whose salary shall be as set by the County
Council of Anne Arundel County but not less than $10,000
annually. (5)] ATTORNEYS, AND 16 ASSISTANT STATE'S

ATTORNEYS WHO SHALL SERVE AT HIS PLEASURE.         (3) THE

ANNUAL SALARY OF THE DEPUTY STATE'S ATTORNEYS SHALL BE
WITHIN THE DISCRETION OF THE STATE'S ATTORNEY, BUT IN NO
EVENT EXCEED $30,000. (4)        THE ANNUAL SALARIES OF THE
