necessary for the immediate preservation of the public
health and safety and having been passed by a yea and nay
vote supported by three—fifths of all the members elected
to each of the two Houses of the General Assembly, the
same shall take effect from the date of its passage.

AN ACT concerning
Alcoholic Beverage Sales on Election Days
FOR the purpose of allowing any [[Class B (on sale)
licensees]] restaurant holding any alcoholic
beverage license to dispense certain alcoholic
beverages for consumption on the premises only on
any election day; exempting Cecil, Kent, and Queen
Anne's Counties from the provisions of this Act; and
clarifying language.
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,
Article 2B — Alcoholic Beverages

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 88(a) of Article 2B - Alcoholic
Beverages, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968
Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement) be and it is
hereby repealed and reenacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
Article 2B — Alcoholic Beverages
88.
(a) (1) It [shall be] IS unlawful for the keeper
of any hotel, tavern, store, drinking establishment or
any other place where liquors are sold, or for any person
or persons, directly or indirectly, to sell, barter, give
or dispose of any spirituous or fermented liquors, ale or
beer, or intoxicating drinks of any kind within any
election district or precinct of this State on the day of
any general, special or primary election [hereafter] to
be held in [such] ANY district or precinct during the
hours when the polls are open. Any person violating the
provisions of this section [shall be] IS liable for
indictment, and [shall,] upon conviction[, be] IS fined
