Article 21 — Crimes and Punishments
18.

(A)    ANY INDIVIDUAL WHO, WHILE LAWFULLY MARRIED TO
A LIVING INDIVIDUAL, ENTERS INTO A MARRIAGE CEREMONY WITH
ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL IS GUILTY OF BIGAMY AND ON CONVICTION
SHALL BE SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT FOR [NOT LESS THAN 18
MONTHS AND]] NOT MORE THAN NINE YEARS.

(B)    THIS SECTION DOES NOT APPLY TO AN INDIVIDUAL
WHOSE LAWFUL SPOUSE HAS BEEN ABSENT FROM THE INDIVIDUAL
FOR A CONTINUOUS PERIOD OF SEVEN YEARS AND WHO, AT THE
TIME OF THE SUBSEQUENT MARRIAGE CEREMONY, DOES NOT KNOW
WHETHER OR NOT THE SPOUSE IS LIVING.

SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1976.

AN ACT concerning

Militia — Defense by Attorney General

FOR the purpose of providing that an officer, warrant
officer, or enlisted member of the organized militia
shall be considered to be a State employee for
purposes of the law allowing the Attorney General to
defend certain actions instituted against an officer
or employee of the State, and for purposes of the
law allowing the Board of Public Works to satisfy
certain judgments rendered against a State officer
or employee.

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments,

Section 12A

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1971 Replacement Volume and 1975 Supplement)
