handicapped children, or a chartered educational
institution insofar as such services are part of the
duties of his office or position with the agency or
institution. However, an individual in this employ may
elect to be subject to this subtitle by applying for a
license hereunder. [An individual is not exempt from
this subtitle who does work as a speech and language
pathologist or audiologist for which a fee may be paid
directly or indirectly by the recipient of the service.]
(2) The activities and services of a
student, or trainee in audiology or speech pathology,
pursuing a course of study at an accredited university or
college, or working in a recognized training center, if
these activities and services constitute a part of his
supervised course of study.
(3) The activities and services of a person
who has recently become a resident of the State and has
had his application for licensing with or without
examination accepted by the Board, pending disposition of
his application, if the person was authorized by the laws
of the state or county of his former residence to perform
these activities or services. [No one may be exempt
under paragraph (1) above who shall do any work as an
audiologist or speech pathologist for which a fee may be
paid by or for the recipient of the service.]
(d) This subtitle shall not be construed to
prevent any person who is a medical or osteopathic
physician licensed to practice by the Board of Medical
Examiners from evaluating, diagnosing [and/or] AND
treating disorders of hearing, language, and speech in
humans.
(e) This subtitle shall not be construed to
prevent any person licensed in this State as a hearing
aid dealer from the practice of fitting and dealing in
hearing aids.
(F) THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SUBTITLE DO NOT APPLY
TO INDIVIDUALS WHO FUNCTION AS VOLUNTEERS IN FREE SPEECH
AND HEARING SCREENING PROGRAMS.
793.
(a) To be eligible for licensure by the Board as
an audiologist or speech pathologist, the applicant shall
pay a fee as established by the Board and, to the
satisfaction of the Board, must:
(1) Be a person of good moral character.
[(2) Be 21 years of age or older.]
