Comand was given to ye Sherf. of Kent County ye 28. day of March Annoq Domi. that he Take
Isaac Bowles if found in his bailiwick and him Safe keepe Soe that he have his body before his
majties Justices at a Court to be held for Said County ye fourth Tuesday of June next to Answer
unto Isaac Davis of A plea of Trespass upon ye Case
Att which Court Vizt. ye 25. day of June Anno Domi. 1700 ye Day of ye returne of Said writt
Came Elias King high Sherf. of Said County & made returne of Said writt thus Endorsed Vizt.
                                                   Non Est Inventus    pr                 Elias King Sherf.

On which Said Day ye Said Defendt. by Michael Earle his Attry appeares and prayes
thereof to Imparle untill ye next which was granted unto him ye Same Day is given to ye Sherf
plaint. likewise
Which Case being Cont. from Court to Court untill this prsent Vizt ye Eleventh Day of
Febry Annq Domi. 1700 ye Said Cause Standing for Tryall       ye plaint. Decln. Vizt.
Kent Ss          Isaac Bowles of Said County Stands Attached to Answer unto Isaac Davis of A plea of

   Trespass upon ye Case
And whereupon ye Said plaintf. by Richard Macklin his Attry Sayes that whereas ye Said
Defendt. pretending A right & property in and unto A Certaine Mary Addames & ye Said Mary
at Kent County within ye jurisdiction of this Court ye first Day of Janry Anno Domi. 1699
unto ye Said plaintf. for ye Sume of four pounds Sterg. one galln of Rum & four pounds of Suggar
as a Servant did Sell and deliver which Said Sum of four pounds Sterg. one galln. of Rum [&]
four pounds of Suggar ye Said plaintf unto ye Said Defendt. did honestly & puntuall Satisfie
pay and whereas ye Said Mary Addames Afterwards that is to Say Att a Court held for ye Said
County in ye Month of Janry Anno Domi. 1699 did by hir petition represent to ye Court that
She was not a Servt. to ye Said Defendt. and therefore by her Said peticon humbly prayed
this Court that She might be acquitted and discharged from Servitude upon which peticon
of ye Afsd. Mary Addames it was then & there Considered by ye Court that ye Said Mary Addam[es]
was A freewoman and that ye Said Defendt. had noe right or property in or to ye Said Mary
nor ye Said plaintf. by virtue of ye Afsd. Sale Soe as Afsd. Made of ye Said Mary by ye Said Defendt.
unto ye Afsd. plaint but that ye Said Mary be Utterly & Clearly Acquitted & Exonerated from [ye]
Said Defendt. or any person Claiming any right property or Service to ye Said Mary by from o[r]
under ye Said Defendt. in consideration whereof ye Said Defendt. upon himselfe Assumed and
unto ye Said plaintf faithfully promised that he ye Said Defendt. wh[en there]unto Afterwards
required ye Sume of four pounds Sterg. one Galln of rum and four po[unds of Su]ggar Soe as Afsd.
paid by ye Said plaintf. to ye Said Defendt. he would well & Truly Co[ntent &] pay yet Neverthe
:less ye Said Defendt. his promise and Assumption not minding nor regarding but plotting contri[v]
:ing & knavisly designing ye Said plaintf. in this behalfe craftily & Subtilly to decieve and defraud
ye Afsd. 4lb. Sterg. one galln. of rum and 4lb. of Suggar altho often demanded unto ye Said plaintf. ye
Said Defendt. hath not paid but ye Same to pay hitherto he hath denyed and refused and Still doth
deny and refuse to ye damage of ye Said plaintf. Eight pounds Sterg. and thereupon he
brings this Suite                      Macklin pr qr.    pledges &a.                           Jno Doe
