437) In Witness whereof the Parties to these presents have hereunto interchangeably set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first within written Signed Sealed and Delivered in the presence of Clement Hollyday (seal) Nathan Hammond G Duvall (seal) On the back of the aforegoing Deed was thus endorsed (to wit) Maryland Ss.t On the first day of November 1785 Came before me one of the Judges of the General Court the within Named Clement Hollyday and Gabriel Duvall and acknowledged the within Instrument of writing to be their Act and Deed and the Lot piece or parcel of Land within mentioned to be conveyed to ^be^ the right and Estate of the within named Baker Johnson his Heirs and assigns for ever according to the true intent and meaning of the within Deed and the acts of assembly in such case made and provided A C Hanson 7¼ sides Recorded this 1.st day of November 1785 Ex.d & Del.d This Indenture made this fourteenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty five Between Clement Hollyday and Gabriel Duvall Esquires Commissioners to preserve Confiscated British Property of the one Part and Thomas Johnson James Johnson Baker Johnson and Roger Johnson of Frederick County of the other part Whereas at a public sale amongst others of the Land herein after described and mentioned to be conveyed had at Frederick Town in Frederick County aforesaid on the tenth day of October Seventeen hundred and eighty one by Virtue of and in pursuance of an act of assembly "for the emission of Bills of Credit not exceeding two hundred ^thousand^ pounds on the security of Double the value in Lands to defray the expences of the present Campaign" a certain Joseph Dowson was the best and highest Bidder for the Lot piece or parcel of Land herein after described and mentioned to be conveyed at and for the price of Two hundred pounds Current Money for which he gave his Bond with security agreeable to the said Act and Whereas the said Thomas Johnson James Johnson Baker Johnson and Roger Johnson have since purchased the said Piece of Land and have fully paid and satisfied to the Treasurer of the Western Shore the said Purchase Money together with all Interest due thereon Now This Indenture Witnesseth that the said Clement Hollyday and Gabriel Duvall Commissioners as aforesaid for and in consideration of the said payment and other the premisses and by virtue of any and all act or acts of Assembly in such case made and provided Have granted bargained sold conveyed and released and by these presents Do grant bargain sell convey and release to the said Thomas Johnson James Johnson Baker Johnson and Roger Johnson their Heirs and assigns all that the said Lot piece or parcel of Land being part of a Tract of (Land) |
