586 To all People to whom these Presents shall come We John Glassford James Gordon John Campbell junior Henry Riddell Alexander Low and William Ingram all Merchants in Glasgow in that Part of Great Britain called Scotland send Greeting Whereas I the said John Glassford having for several Years past traded to the Province of Maryland in a Concern by myself without any Partners And we the said John Glassford James Gordon and John Campbell having for above seven years past traded to Maryland aforesaid in Company with Thomas Campbell Merchant in Maryland under the Firm or Designation James Gordon and Company and the said Thomas Campbell having sometime ago withdrawn from the said Trade and made over and conveyed to us the said John Glassford James Gordon and John Campbell his one fifth Share of the Stock in Trade and of the Houses Lands Stores Leases Mortgages Goods Debts Ships and Effects belonging and owing to the said James Gordon and Company And the Trade aforesaid of the said James Gordon and Company having been lately conjoined with the Branch of Trade aforesaid carried on by the said John Glassford himself We the said John Glassford James Gordon John Campbell Henry Riddell Alexander Low and William Ingram begun to prosecute the same together in Copartnership under the Firm or Designation of John Glassford and Company for which Purpose the said John Glassford had made over and conveyed to us the said new Company the Lands Houses Stores Leases Mortgages Goods Debts Ships and Effects belonging and owing to him in his said Maryland Concern And the said James Gordon and Company in like Manner had made over and conveyed to us the said new Company the Lands Houses Stores Leases Mortgages Goods Debts Ships and Effects belonging and owing to them And whereas I the said John Glassford for myself as former Proprietor of the said Maryland Concern wherein I was solely interested And we the said John Glassford James Gordon John Campbell Henry Riddell Alexander Low and William Ingram under the Firm of John Glassford and Company as in the Right and Place of the said John Glassford in Manner abovesaid And We the said John Glassford James Gordon and John Campbell under the Firm James Gordon and Company Proprietors of the said former Concern under that Firm And We the said John Glassford James Gordon John Campbell Henry Riddell Alexander Low and William Ingram under the Firm John Glassford and Company as in the Right and Place of the said James Gordon and Company in Manner abovesaid And we the said John Glassford James Gordon John Campbell Henry Riddell Alexander Low and William Ingram Partners in the said new Concern under the Firm John Glassford and Company in our own right are at present or hereafter during the course of the Business carried on for us in the province of Maryland aforesaid may be seised in our Demesne as of Fee of and in certain lands in the Province of Maryland aforesaid or other the British Dominions in North America And whereas certain Mortgages have been or may be taken for and in the Names of all or nay of us of certain lands in the said Province of Maryland or other the British Dominions in North America as Securities for the Payment of certain Sums of Money or Tobacco due and owing unto all or any of us Now know ye that I the said John Glassford for myself We the said John Glassford James Gordon and John Campbell for ourselves otherwise designing (ourselves) |
