240 the within James Keech and acknowledged the within Instrument of Writing to be his Act and Deed and the Lands and Premises with the Appurtenances therein specified to be the Right and Estate of the within Thomas Greenfield his Heirs and Assigns to and for the Uses Intent and Purposes therein mentioned Sam Hanson J Hawkins On the third Day of September 1771 came before me the Subscriber one of his Lordship's Judges of the Provincial Court the within Thomas Greenfield and Alexander Contee Hanson and acknowledged severally and respectively the within Instrument of Writing to be their respective Act and Deed to and for the Uses Intents and Purposes in the same particularly mentioned and according to the Act of Assembly in such Case made and provided Dan of S Tho.s Jenifer Recorded the 21st Day of September 1771 x.d Know all men by these Presents That We James Simson, John Baird and Alexander Crighton all of the City of Glasgow in North Britain, Merchants and Partners in Trade under the Firm and Title of Simson, Baird and Company, Merchants in Glasgow, Considering that we are Owners and Proprietors of a Store and trading Business at Piscataway in the Province of Maryland known by the Name or Title of the [S] Cargo or Shore formerly under the Management of James Brown as our Factor or Supra Cargo there with the Goods Debts and Subjects belonging thereto, together with one fourth Part or Share of a Rum Store and Trade as Partners with Peter Campbell and Company at Piscataway All which Subjects so belonging to us we have sold to Robert Dreghorn Esquire, Matthew Orr Esquire, James Brown, James Corbet Junior and me the said James Simson as Partners in Trade and Company established under the Firm and Title of James Brown & Company Merchants in Glasgow, so far as the aforesaid Subjects are outstanding & owing from & since the first Day of January last in this present Year one thousand seven hundred and seventy one, and for recovering collecting and discharging the aforesaid Subjects so sold by us to the said James Brown and Company it is proper and necessary that these Presents be made and granted by us in Manner under written Therefore Now Know Ye, That we the said James Simson, John Baird and Alexander Crighton Partners in Trade under (the) |
