(540) Deed to be his Act and Deed and the Lands & Premisses therein Contained to be the only Right Property and Estate of the within named Thomas Ringgold his Heirs and Assigns according to the Form Force & Effect true Intent & Meaning of the same Deed and at the same time Elizabeth the wife of the said Joseph Cowman did also Personally appear before me and Acknowledged the said Deed to be her Act and Deed also and being examined apart out of the Hearing of her said husband did declare that She made her said Acknowledgment and releese of Dower in the lands above & within Mentioned Willingly and freely and without being induced thereto by Fear or threats of or Ill Usage from her said Husband or for Fear of his Displeasure In Testimony whereof I have hereunto Set my Hand the Day & Year above written Ge.o Steuart 1769 May 13.th Received of M.r Thomas Ringold twenty four Shillings Sterling for the use of Lord Baltimore being the Alienation Fine on the within Land and by Virtue of a Commission from Daniel of S.t Tho.s Jenifer Esq.r his said Lordships Agent & receiver General Jn.o Brice recorded the 13.th day of May 1769 Ex.d This Indenture made the first Day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and Sixty nine Between Mark Griffin Cooper late of 6 sides S.t Marys but now of Queen Anns County of the One Part and Thomas Griffin of S.t Marys County Planter of the other part Witnesseth that the said Mark Griffin Cooper for and in Consideration of the Sum of Seventy pounds Current Money to him in hand by the said Thomas paid and also for and in Consideration of the Sum of two thousand five hundred Pounds of Crop tobacco heretofore Paid by Philip Griffin deceased the Receipt whereof and of Each and Every Part thereof is hereby Acknowledged Hath given Granted Bargained and Sold and by these presents Doth Give grant Bargain and Sell unto him the said Thomas Griffin his heirs and Assigns All those two Tracts or parcells of Land following that is to say fifty acres part of a tract of Land called S.t Jeroms Freehold lyeing and being in the County afs.d agreeable to the courses of a Deed heretofore made by the said Cooper to the said Thomas Griffin also all that Tract or parcell of Land called S.t Helens Swamp lyeing and being in said County agreeable to the courses Contained in a Deed from William Guither to Cecil Butler Containing two hundred and ninety nine Acres of Land together with all and Singular the houses Buildings fences and Improvements to the same Lands belonging and the Reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders thereof and all the Estate Right and Title of him the said Mark Griffin Cooper of into or out of the same To have and to hold the same parcells of Land and premisses with the Appurtenances unto him the said Thomas Griffin his heirs and assigns to the intent and purpose that he may be perfect Tenant of the freehold so that a Common Recovery may be had and suffered of the same and it is hereby Covenanted and Agreed that the said Common Recovery when Suffered shall be to the uses following that is to say for one Moiety or half part of the said tract of Land called S.t Helens Swamp to the use of Susannah (Mary) |
