       saith That in the night of the Twenty six Inst.t being a Shoar in Cumberland
       Bay aforesaid George Brown his mate with Charles Harney Will.m Haslip
       and Henry Harney Mariners in his said Sloop did in his Absence as
       aforesaid being on the Sloops Bussiness Break Open two of the sid
       Deponents Trunks and take from Thence the Sum of Two hundred and
       Thirty Eight pounds fifteen shillings Curr.t Money which he this Deponent
       had rec.d in part of the payment for his Sloops Cargoe Also a stone Ring
       worth two Guineas and then made their Escape by Carrying of a Boat
       belonging to the said Sloop with four Oars a barrel of Beef a fask of
       Bread and two Bucketts all belonging to the said Sloope Therefore I the said
       Walter Corbet Notary as aforesaid do at the request of the said Eastes How
       in behalf of John Hurd Merch.t in Boston New England & William
       Purveyance Esq.r of Wilmington North Carolina by these presents most
       Solemnly Protest as well in Behalf of these Gentl.n as of himself against
       the aforesaid George Brown Mate Charles Harney Henry Harney and
       W.m Haslip for all Losses and Damages Sustained as aforesaid or
       which is or may Accrue be Sustained since or in time to come by reason
       of the said Theft Robery and Desertion
                               In Testimonium Veritatis

       On the foot of the aforegoing Protest was Thus written Viz.t
      
       NB I went on board the Sloop Betsy with Cap.t Howe and Saw his Tronk
       Broke Open and Bote & People Gone                        John Lawley
      
       On the Back of the aforegoing Protest was thus written Viz.t

          Anguilla            Before Benjamin Roberts Esq.r
                                  one of the Council of this Island &c

       Personally appeared before me John Grayham one of the Mariners belonging
       to the Sloop Betsey Estes How Master and Solemnly Made Oath on the
       holy Evangelist of Almighty God that he was present on Board the Sloop
       Betsey but a Sleep in the Stereige when the above facts was committed
       by the above or within mentioned George Brown Mate Charles Harney Henry
       Harney and William Haslip Mariners of said Sloop as Leaving them
       all on Board when this Deponent went to Sleep               John Graham
       Sworn before me this 8.th day October 1766      Benj.a Roberts   (seal)
