503) to which he this Deponent Replyed that he believed so because they had been near Neighbours If he this Deponent would Sell his Right to a Tract of Land containing about three or four hundred acres of land lying in the af.d county of New Castle which the af.d John Scott held by Deed of Conveyance for the same to him from the af.d Edward Green as appeared by the Records of the aforesaid county of New Castle where the Said Deed was Registred & To this the said Deponent replyed that he never before then so much as heard Mention of any Land held by his Father the said John Scott from the Said Edward Greene But the said VBebber Reparteed that there was a Tract Recorded as af.d but that it was Mightily Entangled And Yet if the Said Deponent would Sell the same he the said Vanbebber would give him five pounds PenSylvania Money for his Right of the said Tract whether he recovered the same or no with promise of a greater sum upon Recovery thereof to which the s.d Deponent consented and took the said Van Bebbers Obligation for performance of the same as he the said Deponent thought (being illiterate) And he the Said Deponent Signed an Instrument of writing which he took to be only an assignment for three of or four hundred acres of land as af.d to the said Vanbebber for that the said Van Bebber pretended the same to him this Deponent who trusted to his honesty But he the said Deponent being afterwards informed that the s.d Tract contained 2500 Acres of Land had the Records of New Castle County af.d searched on which was found Registred A Deed for two thousand five hundred Acres of Land from Edw.d Green af.d to the said John Scott of which he this Deponent obtained a Copy The said Deponent further Deposeth that afterwards enquiring of the said Vanbebber the reason of his imposing on him this Deponent in affirming the said Tract to contain ^but^ three or four hundred acres when the same contained 2500.a he the said Van Bebber answered that it was true there was so Many Acres in the s.d Tract but that the same was indebted about one hundred one hundred pounds Quit Rent and another time talking of the same Matter the said Van Bebber told this Deponent that it was true the said Tract contained 2500 acres but that it was all (Save sixty comprehended in his the said Van Bebbers Mannour) And further this Deponent Saith that some time in the Year 1722 M.r Stephen Knight read the af.d Copy from the Records of said Deed as aforesaid in the hearing of |
