229 x.d To all Christian People to whome this present writeing shall Come S.r John Werden Barr.t John Bridges Rob.t Williamson and Edward Gibbon Esq.rs four of the Commissioners appointed for the Management of her maj.tys Customes send Greeting Whereas Thomas Couts late of London Merchant stands indebted to her maj.ty in the sume of twenty thousand pounds and upwards for duties and Customes payable for tobacco imported by him into Great Brittaine for secureing whereof her maj.tys writt of extent hath issued out of her Court of Exchequer at westminster ag.t the Said Thomas Couts for seizing into her maj.tys hands all [illegible] effects of and debts owing to the said Thomas Couts to be applyed towards satisfying and discharging the said Debt whereby all the estate and effects of and debts oweing to the said Thomas Couts are become charged and lyable to satisfie the same and ought to be seized delivered and applyed to her maj.tys use for satisfying her said debt wherever the said estate effects and debts are And whereas we are informed that great pain of the effects and estate of the said Thomas Couts are in the hands of George Braxton and John Bayler of Virginia in parts beyond the seas Merch.ts William Trent of Philadelphia in parts beyond the seas merch.ts John French of New Castle in Pensilvania in parte beyond y.e seas Merch.t William Watts deceased and Patrick Andrews of Patuxen in parts beyond the seas Merch.ts Barnard Townsend now or late master of y.e ship called the Welcom supply and severall other persons in Virginia Maryland & other parts beyond the Seas and great sums of mony are in those places or some of them owing by severall persons to the sd Thomas Couts And Whereas by an Inquisition taken before S.r Francis Forbes Kn.t and S.r Joshua Sharp Kn.t sher of the County of Middx the thirtyeth day of January in y.e twelfth year of her maj.tys reigne by Vertue of an Extent und.r the seale of her maj.tys Court of Exchequer at Westminster directed unto the said sherr against the said Thomas Courts of London merch.t Grounded upon severall bonds wherein he stands bound unto her present maj.ty Anne Queen of Great Brittaine &c for the duties and Customes of goods by him entred (in) |
