880 (354 To his Ex.cy Francis Nicholson Esq.r Cap.t Gen.ll and Com.r in Chiefe in and over y.e Province of Maryland &c.a Wee whose names are subscribed being p.rsent on Saturday last being y.e Third Instant in y.r Provinciall Court at which time your Ex.cy was pleased w.th his Maj.ties hono.ble Councill to Come and Declare to y.e Court & County then p.rsent y.e severall devises and wicked mackienacons that of late had most malicously and falcely been Invented studied and spread abroad to y.e Defaming and scandall trouble and Disquiet of this happy Governm.t &c.a And y.e hon.r and verasity of y.e Governm.t as well by what you were then pleased to produce and make Publick as by severall other pregnant reasons and proofes being soe fully and clearly vindicated and the and y.e malitious Designes af.d soe palpablity detected and their contriveances (wee hope) almost brought to nought and supprest wee concieve our selves oblidged in Gratitude and good manners to y.r Ex.cy and in love and good will to our Country humbly to rep.rsent y.e same to y.r Ex.cy and to pray 1.ly That you will Continue this your goodness and care of us 2.ly That you will by some Proclamacon or other Publick Instrument (as your wisdome shall advise) make y.e same knowne through y.e whole Province not onely to quiet y.e minds of these that may have aney distrust or doubt but to warne and caution all others to a voyd such wicked design and contriveances or y.e less to engage or be seduced by them that thereby they may a voyd y.e Just punishments that some are Deserved by fallen into for y.e same In this wee speake our owne hearts and minds and wee verily believe of all that heard y.e same and humbly subscribe our names September y.e 5.th 1698
